RE: Hershey RV Show

I happened to be in Harrisburg that week and went to my first Hershey RV show. I was impressed at the size and offerings there! I can't believe what the Class A motorhomes are putting into their units. I went in one with a sauna! And the prices! When is the bubble going to burst, how can people afford to invest $200,000 to $1,000,000. in a unit and the thing depreciates so fast. Must be nice to have money to waste. I ended up getting a very good deal on a Thule bike rack for my toad. Got a free lunch and a "T" shirt! Nice show, would go back next year.

RE: Snowbirds - what are we going to do about next year??

I like the idea of storing the motorhome down south and traveling back and forth in the toad. The only problem with that is you lose the use of the motorhome Spring, Summer & Fall. Yes and this is such a great state to camp in during the summer, I would hate to lose that--assuming we ever have a summer this year--so far, it has been just like Arizona last winter--cold, windy, and wet! Chuckster11 Where were you last winter? We had great weather in Yuma, only one day in Jan did it rain, about 1/2". Loved it! Not far from you--Parker! I understand Yuma was nice but we found Parker from mid-December to mid-January to be as I described it--cold, wet, and windy. Maybe that was due to the Colorado River? Moved to Tucson for a week--the same. Up to Coolidge for three weeks--a bit warmer but still never the weather we expected. Spent a week at Lake Pleasant--coats were needed. Finally the last week we were in Arizona--last week in Feb. we had a great days at Buckskin State Park. With the prices of fuel, I'm thinking I need to take up my old winter favorites--hunting and skiing and just stay around here all year. It is a little hard to beat Idaho in the summer and fall--especially in my neighborhood--Eastern Idaho. Chuckster11, Yes it was nice, also, when we were there the veggies were beginning to be harvested. We would go out into the fields, which they said we could do, (the foreman of the operation) and get the Cauliflower and broccoli that was left along with lettuce. The celery, one worker gave me six bunches, oh, that fresh stuff is good. The oranges and lemons peaked around Jan 15, delicious, along with the dates. I hope to go back this Winter, I will if gas is in the area of $4.00 a gal, if not, guess I will have to find a place in Florida, but it is so expensive down there. By going there, my gas for the trip would be cut in half. This is one time I am glad I don't have a diesel pusher!

RE: Snowbirds - what are we going to do about next year??

We're going to AZ. One more winter like this one (yes, it's still here!) would probably kill us! Pat' We will also be going back to Yuma next year. We will just have to be a bit more conservative. By the way, it is SNOWING here. Supposed to get 3 to 5 inches today. There is NO WAY that we won't go south next winter. See ya in Yuma. Paul Lord willing and if the hogs don't brake down the fence, I'm going back to Yuma, it was my first time this last Winter and I loved it, looking forward to it again!

RE: Newbie to Forum-re: where to Winter?

Just finished our first winter away from Idaho and we were a bit disappointed with the weather in Arizona--we were in the Parker area from mid December thru mid January and it was cold, wet, and windy. Moved to Tucson and low and behold got stranded in a campground for three days due to a heavy rain and a washed out road! Moved to Coolidge area and weather was cool but windy, Phoenix much the same. The weather finally became pleasant the very end of Feb but it was go home time then. I understand from veteran snowbirds that this was an unusual winter in Arizona and I have a feeling they are right--no one in their right mind would go to Arizona in the winter if it was like this winter all the time. We found plenty of vacancies, thought the monthly rates were reasonable and the amenities in the rv parks adequate for our needs--lots of very nice people with plenty of activities to make the cold weather time go by quickly. We thought Quartzite an absolute zoo but I can understand why some would enjoy the press of people and things there--just not our thing. Nothing, however, completely satisfies when you spend day after day in a motorhome trapped by the weather and unable to enjoy being outside! Cabin fever time. Unfortunately you won't get too many comments about Arizona here--seems dominated with folks that go to RGV even tho I know a lot of folks that read here have to winter in Arizona but don't seem to share their experiences like the folks that winter in Texas. My goodness! No wonder you were disappointed with the weather where you were, you were in the wrong places! I watched the weather forecasts everyday from Yuma and was glad I didn't go where you were! Yuma, Wellton, the Foothills, even El Centro, Ca is where you should have been. We had fantastic weather.

RE: Newbie to Forum-re: where to Winter?

San Diego has the worlds best weather, year round. No comparison, except in prices. Well, I can't agree with you, I was sitting in Yuma this winter, always watching the weather and Yuma had the better weather Jan-Mar than San Diego. And you are right, prices to high. How come we had a lot of Californians come to Yuma this winter? Rio Grande valley is to windy and humid. Florida is to expensive and crowded. I like Yuma.

RE: Trojans vs. Interstates?

I face the same problem in Yuma this winter. Fortunately there was a Trojan dealer there. I dislike Interstate batteries, I have never had one that lasts over 3 years, in fact I also had to replace my coaches starting motor battery, in was interstate, took in to the dealer there in Yuma and it also didn't go over 3 years and they pro rated it and I had to pay $50. they claimed that battery cost $99. Yeah, right! I had a Delco battery in my pickup, a 6 year battery, it went 7 years. I paid $240.00 for my two Trojans, expensive but they are the best.

RE: MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Merry Christmas to you all also, remembering who's birthday it is and what He has accomplished for us, written in the "manual", Holy Bible. He gave a great a sacrifice for us, that we might have eternal life through Him if we live for Him. Again Merry Christmas!

RE: Auto Park vs. Parking Pawl in older P37 Chassis

I have a '90 34' Pace Arrow in the same weight range that has a parking pawl and a manual parking brake. With all of the problems with auto park I have read about I would scrape it and install a manual system. I read somewhere here on how to do that. I have had no problems with the setup on my rig and it is a stock system. DO NOT scrape it! It does the job it is suppose to if all things are working. As stated, auto park will not engage completely until gear selector is placed in park. In my manual when adjusting the cable to the accuator, you put the selector in N and shut engine off. Of course, coach should be blocked to prevent rolling. Mine acted the same way when I got it. I adjusted the brake shoes and the cable going to the accuator (that big can) thing works fine. One has to take care of it as anything else for it to work properly. Do not start engine and throw the selector into drive and step on the gas, manual says to wait until the warning light goes out, then into drive. When stopping, keep foot on brake, shift to Park wait a few second for the parking brake to set, then take foot off the petal.

RE: I learned MORE about Motorhoming from this one!

I would have done the same thing, run out and try to stop my coach from running away. But on the same subject, when I was working on this particular interstate road job, the grease monkey was greasing a rig when his grease truck starting rolling away. He ran to stop it, jumping on the running board but slipped and fell with his one leg going under the wheel. Needless to say, it put a hurt on him. He spent many months healing, then decided to retire. I think old arther has came to take up residence in that leg. You never know what is going to happen, remember what Forest Gumps mother told him: "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get!"

RE: Fleetwood MPG

I appreciate knowing the MPG of these coach, I have been rolling around in mind about getting a diesel but with diesel's costing more, and they don't get any better mileage than my gasser and fuel costing more than gas. I believe I would save more money being content in what I have! Lol, No offense to anyone, incase someone blasts me!

RE: CoPilot 9 Navigator Software w/GPS Receiver for $29.

Have you guys tried calling, many email servers bounce some peoples email as junk. It's hard for a company not to run their systems with spam filters, just multiply the junk mail you receive by hundreds, and that is what many companies deal with. Maybe they didn't ignore you, but they never received the email. I find phone calls are usually returned. Sure I made phone calls, about 10 calls in all. EVERY tech I spoke to was unaware of any of the problems I encountered and EVERY tech I spoke to was totally clueless for an answer. I will give them some credit - they do honor their 30 day money back guarantee. IMHO there is not a single PC mapping software program out there that does it all and does it well. As for Co-Pilot 10 it does neither. Stick with the other major players for GPS software you'll be much better off. Their tech are like Gateway's, I got so sick of dealing with them I took that new Gateway back and got a Acer!

Does anyone know for sure if the KOA at Chula Vista is still in business? Heard that a devoloper bought it, I E mailed that KOA but haven't received a answer.

RE: I learned MORE about Motorhoming from this one!

Correct me if I am wrong, when you apply the air parking brake, does it not just operate the rear barkes? That's what I was wondering, I thought all the brakes would have been set.

RE: CoPilot 9 Navigator Software w/GPS Receiver for $29.

Interesting! I sent an email to ALK and got a response back within a couple hours. Back in August, when I purchased the competitive upgrade I mentioned in my prior post, I sent three emails asking for solutions to the problems I was having. Well it's been over four months and still no answer... I did send Co-Pilot 10 back to ALK for a full refund. In my refund request I documented all the problems I had encountered using their product. Other than the full refund I never got a response. Other folks here swear by this product - I swear at it! It will be a long time before I try another ALK product again. In the future if ALK can improve on their inferior product I'll give it another try. It's to bad they don't have a system like a lot of other software, try it for 15-30 days and run it through it's paces, then if you like it you pay for it. If not it freezes up. But I guess they might go out of business if people find out the data base is ancient and the support stinks!

RE: Too many miles?

In truth that maybe your biggest worry but not too many miles but too few miles. The coach has only averaged 11,000 miles a year and that's not what diesels were made for. They were made to run. Do as previous post said. have it checked out and if ok .then you make the call!! Come on! We have had our diesels sit for a year or so, when we need it or them we jumped the battery, took it to the shop, changed the oil, check the fluids and the thing runs fine. Do you really think that engine is going to fall apart if it is only ran 11,000 miles or less? I don't think so, I would snatch that coach up in a minute!

RE: CoPilot 9 Navigator Software w/GPS Receiver for $29.

I purchased CoPilot Live Laptop 10 earlier this year under their competitive upgrade program. I was not impressed! Here are a few of the things I don’t like about the product. For me one of the major functions of mapping program is to be able to search along your entire route. The Help states that Searching Entire Route is available in the Guidance Mode. The only time Search Entire Route is available is when playing back a GPS log file and you must have your GPS up and receiving signals. Which is pretty useless if you have never traveled your newly planned route. When trying to submit tracks the program can not find my internet connection. The interface for Edit Route is very cumbersome. You must use a wizard to enter an address. Then there is the issue of Help. They say Co-Pilot is Vista compatible. But to use the Help, you must go to Microsoft’s web page and download the Help Engine for operating systems prior to Visa. When using Help it produces Errors. On top of that the Help functionality does not work well either. When selecting Help Topics nothing happens. When entering Lat/Long after about three to five times doing this, will cause memory leaks. Causing the program to crash. Tech support was clueless about any of these items. Overall I find Co-Pilot hard to use, outdated, lacking functionality, too many problems and issues. I think the product was rushed to market without using good QA testing. This release of CoPilot appears to be more of a Beta release, not a product ready for sales to the public. I’ll stick with MS S&T 2008 and Street Atlas USA 2008 Plus I agree with you, I have had copilot 7 now 9, I was displeased with both because their data base is very old and not up to date. And their support system is next to useless, they will not answer your E mails, I had to E mail the head of the company to get action one time, since then it has reverted back to the same thing. They tried to get me to upgrade to 10 for $49. I declined because I thought why throw money into the next version when they couldn't tell me if the problems I have encountered all over the country have been fixed, mis-numbered exits, bridges and overpasses not showing on the map, whole sections of some cities not even on the map! It is a flawed system, I will use what I have but never upgrade again.

RE: Free stays at resorts

A number of years ago we attended a 1000 Trails resort just to listen to their sales pitch...didn't plan on staying, just passing through...now I'm a salesman and thought I could sit through their presentation without a problem...what a high pressure ordeal...they were downright rude...left me wondering if anyone ever bought off of them...we were so glad to get out of there, decided we would never stay at one of their resorts...just our experience... We attended in one down in Virginia, near Williamsburg, only went there for the free camping. Sat in on the sales pitch, very informative, no pressure at all, salesman knew his stuff, we were one of 4 couples, two bought, and two didn't, myself being one of the two who didn't.
